Meet new people. Have fun. Enjoy sailing.

Sheboygan County High School Sailboat Racing League

2011 Season

High school sailboat racing is the most popular program offered by Sea Scout Ship 50. The League runs races during months of June, July and August. Since the races take place during the summer, there are no academic qualifications or other restrictions in order to participate. Prior sailing experience is not necessary either. Participants must however, know how to swim well enough to feel comfortable on the water.

All Sheboygan County high school students are welcome to join! Prior sailing experience is not necessary, aptitude and attitude are important.

Many high schools in the County also have teams. You will train out of the Sheboygan Yacht Club in the Sheboygan Harbor on Flying Junior one-design sailboats that are 13 feet long. More advanced sailors will also race the exciting Olympic 470 class boats, which have a large spinnaker and put one crew member out on the trapeze. You will be surprised how fast these boats are and how exciting sailing can be on Lake Michigan when the wind and waves are up ! Sometimes it is wet and wild, sometimes smooth and serene. But it is always enjoyable if you like water.

You will also learn that sailing is one of the few sports that men and women of all shapes and sizes can compete effectively and have fun together.
No push-ups or laps, JUST SAILING !!!
